SAINT RAYNERIUS OF SPLIT, BISHOP AND MARTYR Saint Raynerius of Split (Rainer of Spolato) (died 1180) is the patron saint of the city of Split. He was archbishop there for many years. Before that he was a Camaldolese monk who became Bishop of Cagli in the Marche (province of Pesaro and Urbino) in 1154. HIS MARTYRDOM He probably died by stoning by Slovenes on a mountain near Split, as he was defending the property rights of the Catholic Church. His feast day is celebrated on August 4.
