ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN MARCH
Saints celebrated on the 14th of March
Prayer to the Angels and the Saints
Heavenly Father, in praising Your Angels and Saints we praise Your glory, for by honouring them we honour You, their Creator. Their splendour shows us Your greatness, which infinitely surpasses that of all creation.
In Your loving providence, You saw fit to send Your Angels to watch over us. Grant that we may always be under their protection and one day enjoy their company in heaven.
Heavenly Father, You are glorified in Your Saints, for their glory is the crowning of Your gifts. You provide an example for us by their lives on earth, You give us their friendship by our communion with them, You grant us strength and protection through their prayer for the Church, and You spur us on to victory over evil and the prize of eternal glory by this great company of witnesses.
Grant that we who aspire to take part in their joy may be filled with the Spirit that blessed their lives, so that, after sharing their faith on earth, we may also experience their peace in heaven. Amen.
BL. GIACOMO CUSMANO, PRIEST
Blessed Giacomo Cusmano was born on March 15, 1834 in Palermo, Sicily, Italy. He studied medicine at the University of Palermo, and after doctorates in medicine and surgery, he worked as a doctor in Palermo (from 1854 to 1859).
A DOCTOR FOR THEIR SOULS
He soon noticed that many of his patients among the poor in Palermo first and foremost needed a doctor for their souls rather than one for their bodies. Therefore, he began to study theology, and on December 22, 1860, he was ordained a priest.
He was deeply affected by the poverty on the island and the recurring famine and epidemics. He was also concerned about the prevailing social conditions. He decided to dedicate himself completely to improving this situation in a spirit of love for God and people.
THE FOUNDATIONS
In 1880, he founded an Order of sisters to help the plight of the poor, the "Suore Serve dei Poveri". In 1887, the Congregatio Missionariorum Servorum Pauperum for priests was begun.
EVERYTHING FOR GOD'S GLORY
He taught his spiritual sons and daughters to practice charity within the framework of the evangelical counsels, in the presence of God and in union with him, receiving all of his hands and to do everything for him and for his glory. Fr Giacomo died on March 14, 1888 in Palermo, the day before his 54th birthday. He was beatified on October 30, 1983.
