SAINT LACTAN, ABBOT
Saint Lactan (Lactinus) was a 7th century abbot. Born near Cork, it is said that a miraculous spring provided the water for his Baptism, and that, when fifteen years old, he was taken by his Guardian Angel to Saint Comgall, the great Abbot of Ben-Chor.
He was there instructed by Saint Molua in Sacred Science, and appointed by Saint Comgall to make other foundations, over one of which, at a place called Achadh-Ur (now Freshford, County Kilkenny), he presided till his holy death (A.D. 672).
He worked many miracles, raising the dead to life, and in many parts of Ireland is invoked effectually on the part of paralytics and of those possessed by evil spirits.
(From the Book of Saints, 1921, by the Monks of Ramsgate)
PRAYER:
Grant, we beseech you, almighty God, that the venerable feast of Saint Lactan may increase our devotion and promote our salvation. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.
