ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN FEBRUARY
Saints celebrated on the 4th of February
SIMON, ABBOT
Simon was abbot, first at Alzey (Alciacensia), then from A.D. 1131 at Sithiu (Sithiensis) or Saint Bertin. However, the latter choice ended up not receiving the confirmation of the Pope nor that of the abbot of Cluny.
Therefore, Simon moved on and from the year 1136 onwards lived at his birthplace Ghent. He died on February 4, 1148.
Menardus* and the French Martyrology* call him "blessed", Saussaius* even "saint". But since other writers do not give him any of those titles, the Bollandists* list him among the Praetermissi.
