LANDULPH, ARCHBISHOP OF AMALFI
Landulph (Landulphus Carraciolus), a noble Neapolitan of the Carraciola Rubea family, joined the Order of the Friars Minor, became a pupil of the famous John Duns Scotus, then doctor at the college in Paris.
He was appointed provincial of his Order in the Neapolitan province of Terra di Lavoro and in 1326 bishop of Castellamare (Castello a Mare di Stabia, Castellum Stabiense).
In 1331 he became Archbishop of Amalfi, where he worked for more than twenty years, and also built the choir of his metropolitan church. He used all his earnings to beautify the churches and to help the poor. He died in the reputation of holiness in 1350 (perhaps a few years later). Both Pope John XXII and King Robert of Naples are said to have thought very highly of him. In any case, he was a great scholar and left several written works. In Art. Mart.* he is called "blessed." The Bollandists* list him among the Praetermissi. (I.4)
