GIRGENTI
Agrigento (Agrigént) once was an important city in Sicily. It was founded as a colony from Gela around 582 BC. In 405 BC it was conquered by the Carthaginians, came under Roman rule in 261, was destroyed by the Saracens in the 9th century, and is now called Girgenti.
