Saints celebrated on the 15th of July
WELCOME!
SAINT APRONIA, VIRGIN
Saint Apronia was the sister of Bishop Saint Aper, who is venerated on September 15, and like him, she was descended from noble parents in the town of Trancol (Tranquillus) near Troyes. Encouraged by her parents from an early age to engage in religious practices, she, upon reaching adulthood, had no greater desire than to consecrate herself to Jesus Christ in perpetual virginity, a wish which she then actually fulfilled. However, the written records that mention her (dating from the year 1525), do not specify whether she lived in a convent or not. Since her saintly brother died towards the end of the 5th century or at the beginning of the 6th century, those authors who claim that Saint Apronia lived or died around the year 410 or 420 are mistaken, because obviously she was her brother's contemporary. Her body was buried in Troyes, but in the 10th century, Bishop Gerard of Toul (963-994) transferred it to Toul, where her memory is solemnly celebrated.
