SAINT PHILIP, PRIEST, APOSTLE OF SICILY - 12 MAY

ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN MAY Saints celebrated on the 12th of May WELCOME! SAINT PHILIP, PRIEST, APOSTLE OF SICILY The most famous biography of Saint Philip of Agyrium in Sicily is fabulous and therefore hardly touches on his companion, the holy Eusebius , who is said to have been a monk and a contemporary, and neither does it mention Deacon Philip, who is venerated as part of the little group of assistants of Saint Philip, Apostle of Sicily. In the place where Saint Philip lived and worked around the beginning of the 5th century ( in diebus Arcadii imperatoris begins a Life of Saint Philip, cited by Baronius *), he has always been venerated, and his memory has been faithfully handed down the generations. This fact, and the number of rich legends of miracles which glorify him confirm his great activity in these regions, through which he acquired (cf. Mart. I. 99) the honorary title "Apostle of the Sicilians". He sent his student of the same name [Philip the deacon] to Pal...

ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN MAY Saints celebrated on the 3rd of May WELCOME! SAINT PHILIP OF ZELL, HERMIT   From 8th century England, where he was born at an unknown place, St Philip came to Rome as a pilgrim, and, according to legend, he became a priest in Rome. Afterwards, abandoning himself to the guidance of God, he came to what is now the Bavarian Rhine-Palatinate, and settled in a place which was henceforth called Zell. Philip's biography relates that he lead a contemplative hermit life. The animals of the forest came to him trustingly, for he shared his food with them. Birds especially flew spontaneously onto his hand when he called them - as if they had been trained.  The reputation of the Servant of God gradually spread throughout that country, and reached the ears of Pepin the Short, who came to pay the holy man a visit, which he gratefully returned with pious intercession and salutary counsel. A monastery came into existence at the spot which included a church d...
