WELCOME!

BLESSED ROGER FILCOCK, PRIEST AND MARTYR

Blessed Roger Filcock was born about 1570 in Sandwich, Kent, England. He studied at the English colleges in Reims, France, and Valladolid, Spain, where he was ordained a secular priest. He was sent on a mission to England in 1598.

HE WAS IMPRISONED IN NEWGATE

Here he worked for two years and was admitted to the Society of Jesus by Fr Garnet. He was to travel to Flanders to become a novice, but was imprisoned in Newgate and executed for high treason in Tyburn in 1600 by being hanged, panted and quartered. He was about 30 years old.

ONE OF THE 85 MARTYRS

He was beatified by Pope John Paul II on November 22, 1987 as one of the Eighty-Five Martyrs of England, Scotland and Wales. They have a joint memorial day on November 22, but he can also commemorate February 27.

PRAYER:

Grant, we beseech you, almighty God, that we who know how courageously your holy martyr Roger confessed the faith, may experience his goodness as he intercedes for us with you. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.
