MARTINA OF ZARAGOZA, VIRGIN
Venerable Martina, also called "Martina of the Angels," was born in a village not far from Zaragoza in Aragon. She lost her parents early and was brought up at the home of a cousin, who treated her very harshly. From childhood onwards, the good Lord sent her to the school of suffering and gave her the grace of patience and childlike submission to his will, in which she persevered until the end of her earthly pilgrimage.
By heavenly providence she came to the Dominican convent of Santa Fe in Zaragoza, where she lived in extraordinary piety and was blessed with wonderful gifts. She told her fellow sisters of Gustav Adolf's death near Lützen, along with all the ancillary circumstances, on the day it occurred. She also foretold her own death which would happen eight days later, on November 11, 1635. Her beatification was initiated but not completed.
