SIMONETUS, RELIGIOUS
Simonetus, of the Order of St Francis, died at Spoleto in Umbria with a reputation of perfect holiness. He had entered the Order in 1210 during the lifetime of St Francis and thereby exchanged a brilliant and enjoyable life for the poverty of the gospel.
For this reason, the Lord graced him with supernatural virtues and confirmed the sanctity of his life with numerous miracles. His real name was Simon. Since his remains are kept in the same church as those of St Simon, Apostle, he was given the name Simonetus to avoid confusion.
