ST URBAN OF ROME, MARTYR
Saint Urban (Urbanus) of Rome is called by the apostle St Paul "a helper of Christ." According to tradition, Urban died as a martyr after having been caught up in a mob. With him, SS. Ampliatus and Narcissus are frequently mentioned - perhaps merely because they happen to be venerated on the same day. The Greeks designate Urban as a bishop at Macedonia, and give him three martyrs as companions.
