Saints celebrated on the 2nd of February
SAINT ERLULPH, BISHOP OF VERDEN, MARTYR
The origins of Saint Erlulph (Erluphus, Erlulfus), commemorated on February 2 or February 10, are not quite certain. A few sources claim he was an Englishman, some think his ancestry was from Scotland, and yet others affirm that he had been an Irish abbot.
What we know for certain is that he was Bishop of Verden and was martyred by the Normans at Eppeckstoep (Ebbeckesdorp, Ebstorp, Expokstorp) in Lower Saxony (Lüneburg) some time between the years 831 and 847. Butler* lists his name on February 10, and states that he was martyred with the rest of his companions in the year 880. (I. 313)
