SAINT OCTAVIAN, HERMIT
Saint Octavian (Octavianus) flourished in the sixth century. He is said to have been an African by birth, and to have lived as a hermit in Tuscany.
Together with Bishop Regulus he came to the region of Volaterra, and spent the rest of his life in the hollow of an elm tree, which he used as his dwelling. His remains rest in the Cathedral of Volaterra, the city of which he is the patron. Saint Octavian is also commemorated on September 3. (I. 389)
