PAUL OF SAINT MAGDALENA, FRANCISCAN AND MARTYR
Paul (Paulus a S. Magdalena), of the Franciscan Order at London, was put to death for the faith by public judgment in 1643. Artur* lists him as "Blessed Paul." Born in England, he entered the Order at Douai and lived a holy life. Finally, the longing for martyrdom drove him back to his fatherland, where he was sentenced to death as a Roman Catholic religious and priest and sacrificed his life for the faith with the prayer: "Jesus convert England!" (II. 476).
