Saint Colman (Colmanus), commemorated on February 18 and August 8, was Bishop of Lindisfarne in England. He succeeded Saint Finan in this office.
However, because he was unable to prevail in the Easter Controversy (in which he sided with the dissenting Scots), he resigned his bishopric and withdrew first to the monastery of Mailros and then to the island of Hy, where he converted many to the Christian faith.
In 667, he travelled to an island in the western part of the Irish province of Connaught, called Inisbofinde, settled down there and built a monastery. He went to his eternal reward in 676.

Grant, we beseech you, almighty God, that the venerable feast of Saint Colman may increase our devotion and promote our salvation. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.
