SAINT HERMES, BISHOP

Saint Hermes, commemorated on May 21, was a bishop in Egypt, who was exiled by the Arians along with other orthodox bishops. The Bollandist Papebroch* mentions a bishop Hermion of Tanis in Lower Egypt and a bishop Hermias, who co-signed the Council of Sardica. But he does not indicate in the slightest whether our Saint Hermes might be identical with either of these two. (V. 29)

PRAYER:

Grant, we beseech you, almighty God, that the venerable feast of Saint Hermes may increase our devotion and promote our salvation. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.
