WELCOME!
SAINT AURELIUS, BISHOP OF ARIARATHE
This holy prelate is commemorated on November 9. According to Migne*, Saint Aurelius was Bishop of Ariarathe in Cappadocia; Butler*, however, does not mention him at all. Saint Aurelius is especially known for the translation of the mortal remains of Saint Dionysius, Bishop of Milan, who died in his diocese. Saint Ambrose was the one who originally came up with the idea of returning the saint's relics to his native city.
Saint Aurelius went to his eternal reward in 383, on the very day on which Saint Dionysius's transfer took place, and is venerated in Milan. Some of his relics are said to have been in the Hirschau monastery in Württemberg.
The Bollandists* list this Saint Aurelius as an Armenian bishop on May 25, September 14, and 25; some of those dates most probably mark translations of his relics. He is also mentioned in the Elenchus*.
