ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN FEBRUARY
Saints celebrated on the 13th of February
Saint Gilbert (Gilbertus, Gislebertus, [Aegilbertus]) was born in Ham on the Somme, in the Vermandois area, France. As a boy, around the middle of the 10th century, he was admitted to the renowned school of canons of Saint Quentin. After some time, he joined those canons, and was made an archdeacon of Meaux.
By joint election of the clergy and people, he became Bishop Erchenrad's successor after the latter's death. Gilbert is known to have started many pious foundations. He also overhauled the administration of the cathedral chapter's goods. For twenty years he graced the episcopal see of Meaux with virtues and miracles.
According to the Bollandists* Gilbert went to his eternal reward in 1004, Migne* reckons that his death occurred five years later. According to Migne*, his relics are kept and venerated at Saint Stephen's Church [Saint Étienne] in Meaux.
