ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN MARCH
Saints celebrated on the 28th of March
Prayer to the Angels and the Saints
Heavenly Father, in praising Your Angels and Saints we praise Your glory, for by honouring them we honour You, their Creator. Their splendour shows us Your greatness, which infinitely surpasses that of all creation.
In Your loving providence, You saw fit to send Your Angels to watch over us. Grant that we may always be under their protection and one day enjoy their company in heaven.
Heavenly Father, You are glorified in Your Saints, for their glory is the crowning of Your gifts. You provide an example for us by their lives on earth, You give us their friendship by our communion with them, You grant us strength and protection through their prayer for the Church, and You spur us on to victory over evil and the prize of eternal glory by this great company of witnesses.
Grant that we who aspire to take part in their joy may be filled with the Spirit that blessed their lives, so that, after sharing their faith on earth, we may also experience their peace in heaven. Amen.
BL. WILHELM EISELIN, CANON
Blessed Wilhelm [William] Eiselin OPraem was born in 1564 in Mindelheim, Swabia, Germany. He lost his parents at a young age during a plague epidemic and was then accepted into the Rot an der Rot monastery (the former imperial abbey), where he began studying theology. In 1581 he was accepted as a canon in the religious community. On March 28, 1588 he died at the age of 24, presumably of tuberculosis. He was beatified in 1593 .
HIS RELICS AND THE EPITAPH
In the southern entrance hall of the monastery church St Verena in Rot an der Rot there is a glass shrine with a volute frame on the right-hand side near the entrance , in which the full-body relic of the Blessed is exhibited. The original epitaph read:
"Stand still that you pass by. Here lies Brother Wilhelmus Eiselin, greater in virtue than in age, more worthy of heaven than earth. A flower among the thorns. From the flowers a lily. God broke off the flower because he liked it. He left us two lovely pledges: the smell and the stalk. The brothers kept the latter in these chests; the former smells all over the world. Died in the year of Christ 1588, March 28, at the age of 24."
