SAINT MARTIN, BISHOP OF LYON
Saint Martin (Martinus) is the fifteenth in the order of the bishops of Lyon. He was a disciple of Saint Martin of Tours, sixth abbot of Isle Barbe (Barbara) before his elevation, and probable founder of the monastery of Saintes (Saulges). He flourished at the beginning of the fifth century. His veneration is immemorial; his name is mentioned in the major litanies of the church of Lyon. For the same reason it is found in several martyrologies and in the Elenchus*, but in the latter on December 6. See also: Saint Martin, Abbot. (Gal. Chr. IV. 17).
