SAINT ONESIMUS THAUMATURGUS This Saint Onesimus from Caesarea in Palestine, commemorated on July 14, with the title  Thaumaturgus , which is very common among the Greeks, is said to have flourished at the time of Emperor Diocletian (i.e. at the beginning of the fourth century), and to have fallen asleep in the Lord after miraculous deeds at Magnesia.  The story of his birth, his baptism, his alleged monastic life at Ephesus, and everything else, including the blindness of his parents and their healing, seems very far fetched, lacks any authentication and can at most be considered a clumsy illustration of the title "Miracle Worker."   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN MAY Saints celebrated on the 13th of May WELCOME ! SAINT ONESIMUS, BISHOP OF SOISSONS Saint Onesimus, Bishop of Soissons (Augusta Suessionum) was, according to the Gallia Christiana  the seventh bishop in the line of succession there and the first of this name. Around the year 360 he had managed to completely wipe out the numerous remnants of paganism that still existed. His grave at the George Martyr Church outside the city became a place of refuge in all troubles for clergy and laity alike. In 896, the holy bishop's remains are said to have been transferred to a church of his name at Donchery near Sedan (according to Migne*).   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN JULY Saints celebrated on the 6th of July SAINT ARCHIPPUS AND COMPANIONS, MARTYRS The Greek Meneae * list the following holy martyrs: Saint Archippus, who, for his Christian faith, was dragged to death by horses; Philemon, who apparently was burned in a fiery furnace; Apollonius, whom the persecutors threw onto a burning ship, whereupon he perished in the sea; Alexandrius (Alexander, Alexandrion) who was bound to a wheel and rolled down from on high; and Epimaches and Onesimus , who suffered decapitation. The exact time and place of their martyrdom is not known. SAINT ONESIMUS, DISCIPLE OF ST PAUL, BISHOP St Onesimus was a Phrygian by birth, slave to Philemon, a person of note of the city of Colossae, converted to the faith by St Paul.  HE HAD TO FLEE BECAUSE OF HIS DODGY DEED Having robbed his master, and being obliged to fly, he providentially met with St Paul, then a prisoner for the faith at Rome, who there converted and baptised him, and sent him with his canonical letter of recommendation to Philemon, by whom he was pardoned, set at liberty, and sent back to his spiritual father, whom he afterwards faithfully served. AFTER HIS CONVERSION, HE LED AN EXEMPLARY LIFE AND BECAME A BISHOP That apostle made him, with Tychicus, the bearer of his epistle to the Colossians, and afterwards, as St Jerome and other fathers witness, a preacher of the gospel, and a bishop.  The Greeks say, he was crowned with martyrdom under Domitian, in the year 95.
