ST SULPITIUS, HERMIT
Saint Sulpitius (Sulpicius) is commemorated on January 27, January 1, June 20 and July 21. A hermit or bishop, his relics were brought to St Ghislain in Hainaut (Cella Gisleni, Gislenopolis in Hannonia) in 986 by the abbot Simon.
The Bollandists* list him as a bishop. In the French Martyrology he does not have this title, but is only called a hermit (solitarius) of Baye (whence the surname Baionensis). On the other hand, Ghislain states: "Burial of our holy Father Sulpicius, bishop and confessor." He is also listed there on July 21. January 27 is remembered as the day of his death, the other dates mark various translations of his mortal remains.
