  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN APRIL Saints celebrated on the 20th of April WELCOME! SAINT SULPICIUS AND SAINT SERVILIAN, MARTYRS Much of the legend of Saint Sulpicius (Sulpitius) and Saint Servilian ( Servilianus ) has been fabulously spun afterwards. The  Roman Martyrology* states merely  that they were restrained from idol sacrifices and converted by the admonitions and miracles of Saint Domitilla. What is absolutely certain is that they sacrificed their lives for Christ during the reign of Emperor Trajan, either in Rome or in Terracina. Their feast is celebrated in the diocese of Augsburg on April 20 ( ritu simpl .), since their relics were presented to the blessed Hariolphus and Erlalphus, the founders of the collegiate church of Saint Vitus in Ellwangen, by Pope Hadrian. This happened around the year 773. The feast of the translation is celebrated there on May 23rd. This explains why they are not mentioned in Piazza's * work.   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN JANUARY Saints celebrated on the 18th of January WELCOME! SAINT SULPITIUS, BISHOP OF TONGRES Saint Sulpitius (Sulpicius, Supplicius), commemorated on January 18 and February 9, was a bishop of Tongres (Maastricht. Trajectum Tungrorum). According to arbitrary assumption, he occupied the episcopal see of this city from 517 to 525. In a later martyrology he is mentioned on February 9. Further details are unknown.   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN JANUARY Saints celebrated on the 27th of January WELCOME! ST SULPITIUS, HERMIT Saint Sulpitius (Sulpicius) is commemorated on January 27, January 1, June 20 and July 21. A hermit or bishop, his relics were brought to St Ghislain in Hainaut (Cella Gisleni, Gislenopolis in Hannonia) in 986 by the abbot Simon.  The Bollandists * list him as a bishop. In the French Martyrology he does not have this title, but is only called a hermit (solitarius) of Baye (whence the surname Baionensis ). On the other hand, Ghislain states:  "Burial of our holy Father Sulpicius, bishop and confessor." He is also listed there on July 21. January 27 is remembered as the day of his death, the other dates mark various translations of his mortal remains.   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN SEPTEMBER Saints celebrated on the 4th of September WELCOME! SAINT SULPITIUS, BISHOP OF BAYEUX According to the Gallia Christiana *, Sulpitius was the 20th in the line of succession of the bishops of Bayeux. He ruled this diocese around the middle of the 9th century and met his death at the cruel hands of the Normans.  After their departure, his body was found under the ruins of the monastery of Val-Sainte ( Vallis sancta , Heiligenthal ). It was later said that his relics were transferred to St Ghislain. In this case he would be identical with S. Sulpitius Baionensis .   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN DECEMBER Saints celebrated on the 24th of December WELCOME! ST SULPITIUS, BISHOP Saint Sulpitius (commemorated on December 24), was a bishop from Gaul who is mentioned in the annals as as an apostle in the Rhone Valley of the 4th century (around the year 323).  An old manuscript gives him the highest praise and calls him a worthy Gallic bishop . He died after a truly Christian life and was buried in a niche in the church of Martinach. He may be the same as the Bishop of Trois-Chateaux named in the Elenchus * on the above date (Burgener, II. 238). ST SULPITIUS, BISHOP OF RAVENNA Saint Sulpitius, supposedly Bishop of Ravenna, is said to have accompanied  Saint Ursula on her journey. He is commemorated on January 17; the General Martyrology * and the Elenchus * list his feast day as October 31.   WELCOME! SAINTS OGGERIUS, SULPITIUS, AND SEMPRONIUS, BISHOPS IN SWITZERLAND  Following the martyr's death of  Saint Maurice (Mauritius) and his companions in Valais, many renounced idolatry, converted and turned our Lord Jesus Christ.  Around A.D. 310, Bishop Oggerius was active in that area. His full name was Oggerius Hypogrenensis and, according to an old catalog from Ivrea, was sent to Valais by Pope Marcellus . Since an ancient handwritten manuscript calls him a bishop, Burgener* (P. Laurentius - Helvetia sancta) does not hesitate (II. p. 143) to count him as a bishop in the proper sense. His successor in this mission, Saint Sulpitius, who came from Gaul and died at Martinach (in the year 323), bears the title of bishop. Bishop Sempronius is mentioned in 347. The Roman Martyrology states:  "At Rome, the holy martyrs Sulpicius and Servilian, who were converted to the faith of Christ by the discourses and the miracles of the holy virgin Domitilla. Having refused to sacrifice to the idols, they were beheaded by Anian, prefect of the city, in the persecution of Trajan." ST SULPITIUS THE SEVERE, BISHOP OF BOURGES   Two bishops of Bourges bore this name, Sulpitius [Sulpicius]:  Sulpitius the Pious (January 17) and Sulpitius the Severe. A MAN OF HIGH BIRTH Saint Sulpitius the Severe, wrongly identified with Sulpicius Severus , the historian of St Martin, was raised to the see in 584. He was, says St Gregory of Tours, a man of high birth, one of the first senators of Gaul, of great oratorical talent, and expert in the art of poetical rhythms.  THE ELECTION OF SULPITIUS The See of Bourges having become vacant with the death of Remigius, several candidates offered gifts to King Gontran to secure the assistance of his favour.
