ST PRIMUS AND COMPANIONS, MARTYRS OF TRIESTE - 10 MAY

ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN MAY Saints celebrated on the 10th of May WELCOME! SAINT PRIMUS AND COMPANIONS, MARTYRS OF TRIESTE  Saint Primus and Companions are commemorated on May 10 or, alternatively, May 11. The priest Primus and, with him, the deacon Marcus - along with the Saints  Jason and Celianus - suffered martyrdom in Trieste. After the time of Vespasian, not only the city itself but also the Christian faith flourished there with increasing vigor. Witnessing the steadfastness of Saints Primus and Marcus - whom the governor Artasius had first beaten, then tortured with fire, tormented by having molten sulfur poured into their mouths, and finally beheaded - eighty-two pagan onlookers converted. Two of them,  Jason  and Celianus, were immediately seized and breathed their last under the blows. The bodies of Saints Primus and Marcus were translated to Verona.  (Information from Stadler 's Complete Encyclopedia of Saints, Volume 4, Augsburg, 1875, p. 98...

Since he lived in Corinth for ten years with his wife Medea, it is understandable that several Greeks bore his name. However, this name also appears in the Books of Maccabees.
