SAINT NICANOR, DEACON AND MARTYR Saint Nicanor is mentioned in the Greek and Latin martyrologies as one of the first seven deacons appointed by the apostles. THEY PREACHED THE GOSPEL ON THE ISLAND OF CYPRUS They preached the gospel on the island of Cyprus. Because of his faith in Christ he received the crown of martyrdom around A.D. 76, after he had had to endure a number of cruel tortures beforehand. HIS FEAST DAY In the Greek Menologium he is mentioned (Boll. Jan. II. 453) with others on May 6 and July 28, in the Menaeans he is found on December 28, but in that source he is not styled a martyr.
