SAINT PASCHARIUS, BISHOP OF NANTES, CONFESSOR Saint Pascharius, bishop and confessor of Nantes (Nannetes) is also spelled Paschasius , Pasquarius , and in French Paquier and Pascaire . According to the Gallia Christiana * he is the twentieth bishop of Nantes in the line of succession, having mounted the episcopal chair in the year 625. His work is described in the following edifying way: He reluctantly accepted this dignity, but managed his pastoral office with extraordinary care. His entire income, as well as his paternal wealth, he spent on alleviating the need of the poor, widows and orphans. Prisoners were visited by him, and the sick comforted. An exemplary bishop, he shone before the sheep entrusted to him by his examples of virtue and he led them to the Lord by preaching the word of truth.
