  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN JULY Saints celebrated on the 12th of July   WELCOME! SAINT PATERNIANUS, BISHOP OF FANO S. Paterniano de Fano Saint Paternianus was the first bishop of Fano (Fanum Fortunae), where a beautiful church bears his name. Its legend is embellished with numerous miracles. He is said to have lived in the desert until the end of Diocletian's persecution and headed a kind of hermit monastery.  Afterwards, he presided over his diocese with zeal and excellent success, building churches, establishing parishes. Paternianus has been remembered fondly and with great reverence through the centuries up to this day. After about 40 to 45 years of office, he went to his eternal reward. The  Roman Martyrology * lists him as bishop of Bologna, and according to Baronius '* notes he was the seventh bishop in the order and successor of  Saint Petronius (Please also see:  Saint Paternianus ) (III. 295). SAINT PATERNIANUS, BISHOP OF BOLOGNA Saint Paternianus, bishop and confessor of Bologna, whom the Roman Martyrology * lists on this day , was the first successor of Saint Petronius (about the year 450). He held the episcopate for about twenty years, and governed the church of Bologna with great piety. His body is buried in the Church of Saint Felix. There is a big question mark on this whole narrative, though, as the one single fact that can be stated with absolute certainty is his veneration in Bologna. Everything else is so vague and unproven that the Bollandists * suggest that he perhaps might be the same person as Saint Paternianus , but then again, the timing does not quite fit. Paternianus , the bishop of Fano, lived a little later.  In any case, Piazza* (II. 36) states that relics of this saint are also venerated at Saint Lorenzo in Lucina in Rome (III. 302).
