ST PAUL SHIPWRECKED - 16 FEBRUARY

ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN FEBRUARY   Saints celebrated on the 16th February WELCOME! SAINT PAUL SHIPWRECKED  ➡️ The Conversion of Saint Paul - January 25 For readily apparent reasons the feast of 'St Paul’s Shipwreck' has special significance to Malta and its people. The location of the event was on the island of Melita (the island's Roman name) in around A.D. 60, making the country one of only eighteen modern nations to be mentioned in the Bible. THE ISLAND MELITA According to the Acts of the Apostles in the Bible, St Paul was being taken to Rome to be tried as a political rebel. However, the ship carrying him and some 274 others were caught in a violent storm only to be wrecked two weeks later on the Maltese coast, all aboard got safely to the island.  THE ACTUAL SITE OF THE WRECK Even though the actual site of the wreck is a mystery by tradition the event took place in and around St Paul’s Bay and St Paul’s Island, today a statue sits in commemoration of the even...

BIBLE STORY OF ST PAUL’S CONVERSION (Acts 22:3-16)

THE CONVERSION OF ST PAUL ➡️ Saint Paul Shipwrecked Paul said to the people, “I am a Jew and was born at Tarsus in Cilicia. I was brought up here in this city. I studied under Gamaliel and was taught the exact observance of the Law of our ancestors. In fact, I was as full of duty towards God as you are today. I even persecuted this Way to the death, and sent women as well as men to prison in chains as the high priest and the whole council of elders can testify, since they even sent me with letters to their brothers in Damascus. When I set off it was with the intention of bringing prisoners back from there to Jerusalem for punishment. “I was on that journey and nearly at Damascus when about midday a bright light from heaven suddenly shone round me. I fell to the ground and heard a voice saying, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?’ I answered: Who are you, Lord? and he said to me, ‘I am Jesus the Nazarene, and you are persecuting me.’ The people with me saw the light but did n...

THE CONVERSION OF ST PAUL - 25 JANUARY

ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN JANUARY   Saints celebrated on the 25th of January WELCOME! THE CONVERSION OF SAINT PAUL ⬅️ The Bible Story of St Paul's Conversion (From the Acts of the Apostles)   Saint Paul , this great apostle was a Jew, of the tribe of Benjamin. At his circumcision, on the eighth day after his birth, he received the name of Saul. His father was by sect a Pharisee, and a denizen of Tarsus, the capital of Cilicia: which city had shown a particular regard for the cause of the Caesars; on which account Cassius deprived it of its privileges and lands; but Augustus, when conqueror, made it ample amends by honouring it with many new privileges, and with the freedom of Rome, as we read in the two Dions and Appian.  A ROMAN CITIZEN Hence St Paul, being born at Tarsus, was by privilege a Roman citizen, to which quality a great distinction and several exemptions were granted by the laws of the empire.  His parents sent him young to Jerusalem, where he was e...

SAINT FEAST DAY 29 JUNE: ST PETER AND ST PAUL

ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN JUNE Saints celebrated on the 29th of June WELCOME ! EXCERPTS FROM ST AUGUSTINE'S SERMON ON THE SOLEMNITY OF SAINTS PETER AND PAUL ‘This day has been made holy by the martyrdom of the blessed apostles  Peter and Paul. We are, therefore, not talking about some obscure martyrs. For as scripture says, ‘Their voice has gone forth to all the world, and their message to the ends of the earth.’ These martyrs realised what they taught: they followed the path of integrity, they confessed the truth, and they died for it. THE KEYS OF THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN Saint Peter, the foremost of the apostles and a passionate lover of Christ, heard his merits acknowledged when the Lord addressed him: ‘I say to you that you are Peter.’ For he had himself said: ‘You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.’ Then Christ said: ‘And I say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church.’ Therefore, I will build my Church on you, for you are Peter. The nam...
