ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN AUGUST Saints celebrated on the 1st of August WELCOME! SAINT PETER IN CHAINS Today is the ancient feast of Saint Peter in Chains. The fetters that bound the Apostle and first pope have been, fused into a single chain and on display, held in honour from the first century A.D. St Peter was once jailed with the rest of the apostles and set free by an angel ( Acts 5:17-25 ), and the second time, the authorities took no chances, assigning him two guards and bound him in his cell with double chains. But, again, an angel of the Lord appeared, and a light shone in the cell; and he struck Peter on the side and woke him. And the chains fell off his hands.
