ULRICH, FIRST ABBOT OF KAISHEIM - 11 MARCH

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN MARCH   Saints celebrated on the 11th of March WELCOME! ULRICH, FIRST ABBOT OF KAISHEIM   Udalricus (commemorated on March 11 and February 19). This Udalricus [Ulrich], was the first abbot of Kaisersheim (Caesarea)[Kaisheim, in Bavaria, South Germany], which was founded around the year 1135. He was a pious man who kindly but strictly enforced rigorous monastic discipline. He is styled a "Blessed" by Henriquez *. A FATHER AND ROLE MODEL The Cistercian Order was then in its first heyday. The pious abbot had come with twelve monks from the monastery of Lützel (Lucella) in Alsace. He was not only their father and role model, but also built up the whole area through his energetic zeal in promoting devotion, worship, the maintenance of strict monastic discipline, industriousness and renunciation.
