WELCOME!

SAINT ADALBERO, BISHOP OF METZ

Adalbero II was the son of Duke Friedrich of Lower Lorraine and Beatrix, a daughter of Hugo Capet.

In 994 he was raised to the episcopal see of Metz. His generosity as well as his friendly nature won him the love of his flock, whom he also illuminated with his virtues.

HE TURNED HIS PALACE INTO A HOSPITAL

When a devastating epidemic struck the city of Metz, he turned his palace into a hospital, where he cared for the victims of the epidemic himself.

His life was a constant mortification, which he intensified even more on the eve of festivals and during the great fasts.

HIS PILGRIMAGE TO ROME

In the year 1000 he made a pilgrimage to Rome in order to participate in the anniversary.

After his return he was attacked by gout, which also brought about the end of his life.

As soon as he felt this approaching, he distributed the little money remaining to the churches and the poor and died in 1005. His body was interred in the church of St Symphorian.
