SAINT FEAST DAY 17 OCTOBER: ST IGNATIUS OF ANTIOCH

ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN OCTOBER

Saints celebrated on the 17th of October

WELCOME!

SAINT IGNATIUS OF ANTIOCH, BISHOP AND MARTYR

Saint Ignatius was a successor of Saint Peter as Bishop of Antioch. The young Church still had to operate extremely carefully and as inconspicuous as possible because the Roman authorities were constantly on the case of the Faithful.

HE WROTE SEVERAL IMPORTANT LETTERS

On his journey to Rome Saint Ignatius wrote seven letters to different churches about Christ, the structure of the Church and Christian life. Eventually, Saint Ignatius was martyred under the Emperor Trajan by being thrown to the lions in the Colosseum in A.D. 107.

PRAYER:

Almighty ever-living God,

who adorn the sacred body of your Church

with the confession of holy Martyrs,

grant, we pray,

that, just as the glorious passion of St Ignatius of Antioch,

which we celebrate today,

brought him eternal splendour,

so it may be for us unending protection.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,

who lives and reigns with you

in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

God, for ever and ever.

Amen.
