WELCOME!

SAINT JOSEPH CALASANZ, PRIEST

Born of a wealthy family in Aragon in 1556, Saint Joseph Calasanz was ordained when he was in his thirties and went to Rome in 1592. He gave his life to the education of young people. He founded the first free school there; others came to work with him, and a religious congregation was formed to carry on the work, which spread through Italy and to Germany. As its success grew, jealousy and intrigue made his life very difficult. St Joseph died in 1648.

PRAYER:

Lord,

you blessed Saint Joseph Calasanz

with such charity and patience

that he dedicated himself

to the formation of Christian youth.

As we honour this teacher of wisdom

may we follow his example in working for truth.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,

who lives and reigns with you

in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

God, for ever and ever.

Amen.
