Saints celebrated on the 27th of May
SAINT AUGUSTINE OF CANTERBURY, BISHOP
In 597 Pope Gregory the Great sent Saint Augustine from Rome to preach the Gospel in England. Augustine and the monks who accompanied him were welcomed by king Ethelbert, and established themselves at Canterbury, where St Augustine became Archbishop. Many were baptised; other dioceses were established, especially in Kent. St Augustine died on May 26, about 605.
PRAYER:
Father,
by the preaching of Saint Augustine of Canterbury,
you led the people of England to the Gospel.
May the fruits of his work continue in your Church.
Amen.
