Saints celebrated on the 14th of February
SAINT VALENTINE, BISHOP AND MARTYR
Saint Valentine (in Latin, Valentinus) is a widely recognised third-century Roman saint commemorated on February 14 and associated since the Middle Ages with a tradition of courtly love.
HIS BODY WAS BURIED IN A HURRY AND A FEW DAYS LATER HIS DISCIPLES BURIED HIM PROPERLY
According to the official biography of the Diocese Terni, Bishop Valentine was born and lived in Interamna and was imprisoned and tortured in Rome on February 14, 273, while on a temporary stay there. His body was buried in a hurry at a nearby cemetery and a few nights later his disciples came and carried him home.
THE ENTRY IN THE ROMAN MARTYROLOGY
The Roman Martyrology, the Catholic Church’s official list of recognised saints, for February 14 gives St Valentine; a martyr who died on the Via Flaminia.
PRAYER:
Grant, we beseech you, almighty God, that we who celebrate the anniversary of the death of your holy Martyr Valentine may by his intercession be delivered from all evils that threaten us. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
