HYACINTH CISTERNES AND COMPANIONS, MARTYRS
Hyacinthus entered the Dominican Order at Valencia. He planned to go to Japan for missionary work, taking the route via the West Indies. He took with him five members of the order.
THEY WERE SLAIN
In December 1693, the ship they were sailing on landed in Guadeloupe on order to take water. The inhabitants, who at that point were still savage [as all of our distant ancestors generally were before they received the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ], attacked it and killed the missionaries. The martyrs' names are not completely preserved.
