ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN DECEMBER
Saints celebrated on the 25th of December
SERAPHINUS OF ALTSTÄTTEN
Seraphinus, commemorated on December 25, was given the surname Engel ["the angel"]. He was a pious Capuchin priest from Altstätten in Switzerland (Canton St Gallen), the son of pious country folk, and raised by them well in all Christian ways.
HE LABOURED FOR THE SALVATION OF SOULS
In 1588, he joined the Order and laboured in it for the salvation of souls through word, example and prayer until his blessed passing. Neither did he ever lose sight of his own perfection.
HIS DEVOTION TO THE BLESSED VIRGIN
Like all truly pious souls, he nurtured in his heart an intimate love and admiration for the blessed Virgin Mother of God. He diligently prayed her office every day and closed all his letters with the words: "I ask you to greet the Queen of Heaven with an Ave Maria on my behalf." He died during the holy Christmas night in 1629.
