SAINT MARTHA OF BETHANY

Martha is the sister of Mary and Lazarus: she appears in the Gospel three times – when she receives the Lord into her house and waits on him (Luke 10:38-42); at the resurrection of Lazarus, when she proclaims her faith in Jesus, “son of the living God”; and in John 12:2, at the meal given to Jesus six days before the Passover.

PRAYER:

Father,

your Son honoured Saint Martha

by coming to her home as a guest.

By her prayers

may we serve Christ in our brothers and sisters

and be welcomed by you into heaven, our true home.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,

who lives and reigns with you

in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

God, for ever and ever.

Amen.

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN JANUARY Saints celebrated on the 7th of January WELCOME! SAINT VALENTINE, BISHOP OF RHAETIA Saint Valentine (Valentinus) is the patron saint of the diocese of Passau. The Proprium of Passau relates his life story as follows: Saint Valentine came from the seashore and arrived at Batava, today's Passau. Here he wanted to proclaim the gospel to the inhabitants, who were ignorant of the true worship of God, and therefore went to Rome to obtain the necessary authority from the Pope for this undertaking. Upon his return, he invested much time and effort to gain those lost souls for Christ, as the Pope expected him to.
