VENERABLE NICOLA MOLINARI, BISHOP
Venerable Nicolaus Molinari (Nicola Molinari), commemorated on January 18, bishop of Bovino in Apulia, was born in 1708 at Lagonero in Basilicata of pious parents named Carl Molinari and Cecilia Mazzaro. He was given the name Joseph at his baptism.
HE BECAME A CAPUCHIN FRIAR
As his mother had ardently wished, he became a Capuchin monk and travelled through many parts of Italy as a zealous preacher. Pius VI appointed him bishop of Scala and Ravello in recognition of his zeal and other virtues, from where he was transferred to the chair of Bovino (Vibinum) in the Capitanata.
HIS HOLY DEATH
He died in the odour of sanctity on January 18, 1792. Its beatification was initiated in 1831. His life is described in detail in Lechner's Lives of the Saints of the Capuchin Order.
