BLESSED ADELHELM, ABBOT
Blessed Adelhelm (Adelelmus, Adelelmo) was the first abbot of Engelberg in the canton of Unterwalden in Switzerland. Before he got there he stayed in some "solitude of the Mother of God" (most probably the Einsiedeln monastery). Some hold that he was previously a monk and prior at St Blaise.
MANY MIRACLES TOOK PLACE AT HIS TOMB
God rewarded his rigorous virtue with the gift of prophecy, by means of which he foretold the immediate fate of his monastery. After his death, which took place in 1131, many miracles took place at his tomb, which were repeated when in 1611 his body was raised and placed in another tomb. On this occasion an exceedingly lovely fragrance is said to have emerged from it.

PRAYER:
Grant, we beseech you, almighty God, that the venerable feast of the blessed Adelhelm may increase our devotion and promote our salvation. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.
