SAINT BELINA, VIRGIN AND MARTYR
Saint Belina - from a farmer's family - was a virgin and martyr who would rather die than listen to the shameful petitions of a certain de Dracey, and was therefore killed by him in his rage. She refused his advances and died in defense of her virginity (in 1153).
She was canonised by Pope Innocent III in 1203. Some sources give her feast day as September 8. St Belina is solemnly venerated at Maure, a place near Troyes (France).
PRAYER:
May blessed Belina, Virgin and Martyr, who was ever pleasing to you by the merit of her chastity and by her trust in your power, implore for us your forgiveness, we beseech you, O God. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.
