ANDRAGISINA, ABBESS
Andragisina (Angadrisima) a virgin and abbess at Beauvais in France, was the daughter of Robert, who lived at the court of King Clotair.
SHE PRAYED TO BECOME UGLY IN APPEARANCE
When her father wished her to marry a noble and upright man, named Ansbert, who later became Bishop of Rouen, she prayed to God to transform her beauty into a deformity ("rara feminis precatio" as our source puts it). God heard her prayer.
LIFE AT THE NUNNERY
Then she entered the monastery at Beauvais. There she received the veil from St Audoënus, and later became the abbess. After her entry into the religious house she regained her former beauty, which now shone all the more brilliantly because it was the reflection of her spiritual beauty. She died around A.D. 670 or 680.
