WELCOME!
SAINT NOTKER THE STAMMERER
Saint Notker [Notkar] was a famous 10th century monk of the Abbey of Saint Gall in Switzerland. Though his utterance was such as to have earned him the name of Babulus (Stammerer), he was the greatest musician of his age, and successfully reformed the Church chant.
THE GREATEST MUSICIAN OF HIS AGE
He introduced what are called Sequences into the Liturgy, and he himself composed both the words and the music of many of them. Though in high favour with the great men of bis time, he ever lived a zealous and humble monk. He died at Saint Gall A.D. 912.
From The Book of Saints, 1921, by the Monks of Ramsgate
PRAYER:
May the intercession of the blessed Notker commend us to you, so that through his merits we may obtain that which we cannot accomplish by our own. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.
