Saints celebrated on the 30th of May
ADRIAN, MONK
Adrian was previously called Fricoraeus (Frichor, Frechorius) before moving from Ireland to France where he changed his name. He was a student of St Columban at Luxeuil, and accompanied St Caldocus on his apostolic journeys to the heathen lands.
He was sent to Belgium by St Columban to preach the gospel. Under the protection of St Richarius, a rich and respectable man, whom he had converted to Christianity, he won many pagans for the gospel, and thence penetrated to France, where he preached in Picardy, so that he may be considered their apostle.
After his death, which took place in A.D. 630, he was buried in the monastery of St Richarius at Centula (Saint-Riquier), a village in Ponthieu, Picardy. (He is also commemorated on February 11.)
