LUCAS DE ALMODOVAR, LAY BROTHER
Fray Lucas de Almadobar [Lucas de Almodovar], a devout Franciscan lay brother from Almodovar in Spain, died about 1550 in Mexico, in the province of the Holy Angels, in the Franciscan Convent there.
This brother was not only an excellent, loving nurse, but he also had the gift of healing, so that the sick from all the monasteries within reach were brought to his monastery in Mexico. Through his prayer health was restored to many. His prayers also cured the viceroy of New Spain, Antonius de Mendoza, on whom the doctors had already given up.
At his death, a great cross appeared in the sky above the building of the monastery where he had tended the sick for most of his life.
