ROMANUS, BISHOP OF TRENT
Romanus was bishop of his native city of Trent, where he tended God's flock from A.D. 682 to 690. There is a tradition that in A.D. 684 he gave the sudarium of St Veronica (incidentally, the authenticity of the item was doubted by many at the time) to the pope and received vestments and other church ornaments in return.
A little book (libellus), written by Archdeacon Vitalis and expanded by the bishop, which was enclosed with the gift, contained the history of this holy item.
Since Baronius in his annals refers to such a "little book" that is still kept in the Vatican, our Trentian source is quite certain that this little book is the same one that Pope Leo II received from Trent at the time.
There seem to be no other details regarding Bishop Romanus' life and work. The book: "The Church of St. Vigilius and her Shepherds" just contains his name - nothing else.
