CAESARIUS HEISTERBACENSIS, ABBOT
Caesarius Heisterbacensis (Cäsar von Heisterbach), is named in connection with the Heisterbach Monastery, a former Cistercian abbey near Bonn.
He was, as is almost generally believed, born in Cologne and joined the Cistercian order in 1199.
For a long time he held the position of a novice master at Heisterbach, then became prior in the Abbey of Villers in Brabant.
Caesarius Heisterbacensis died around the year 1240, he is the author of several writings. Religious writers like Henriquez give him the title "blessed". The Bollandists, however, call him "pious".
