Saints celebrated on the 30th of September

SERVANT OF GOD FIRMINUS WICKENHÄUSER

Josef Wickenhäuser, Franciscan monk and sculptor, was born on January 19, 1876 in Massenbachhausen, Germany. 

He was the tenth child of the shepherd Johann Adam Wickenhäuser. His father died when Josef was just 15, and from then onwards the latter looked after his mother. 

He earned money for both of them in the road building trade, and later trained as a stonemason. 

In 1905 his mother died. Josef then joined the Franciscans in Harreveld; later he lived in the Düsseldorf monastery. Brother Firminus, as he was now called, henceforth used his remarkable talent and skill to restore Franciscan churches and to create pious sculptures, busts and statues. 

The Servant of God Firminus died on September 30, 1939.
