PETRUS DE QUERIOLETT, PRIEST

Petrus de Queriolett, the son of a councilor, was born on July 14, 1602 in Auray in Brittany.

He led a very dissolute life, during which he retained almost nothing good other than a few devotions to the Blessed Virgin. After having witnessed the exorcism on a girl possessed, however, he was converted and from then on led a severe life of penance.

After he had received the priestly ordination in 1631, for the remaining 23 years of his earthly life, he only practiced rigour and good works: he used his possessions to comfort the unhappy, visited hospitals and prisons, fasted and prayed - these were his  occupations until his death.

This took place on October 8, 1660, in his 59th year. It is said that several people recovered from the effect of his prayer, and that others experienced the same thing at his grave.

The civil administrator threatened to boil them in oil if they did not tell the Lady’s secret. Though badly frightened, they could not think of disobeying our Lady. In disgust, the administrator finally freed them. A large number of people, not knowing that the children had been kidnapped, went to the Cova for the scheduled appearance of the Lady. At noon, there was a loud clap of thunder.
